"The ice was here, the ice was there, the ice was all around."
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Winter has settled upon us here in Wisconsin. Since it's January, I've noticed the short winter days getting a bit longer. Since it's mid-January and January is usually our coldest month, I'm hopeful we've seen the worst of deep cold. Last week, we've had a few days warmer than we've had since early December. Roni and I ventured out with our cameras and shot some scenes that remind us that winter is a time of unique beauty even when we wonder if it will ever warm up.

Enjoy our photos. Roni went to an inland county park and became entranced with the icy patterns on the edge of a brook. I ventured into town to check out the Lake Michigan shoreline which is much different from the Lake Michigan shoreline I see every day.

"Beauty, like ice, our footing does betray; Who can tread sure on the smooth, slippery way: Pleased with the surface, we glide swiftly on, And see the dangers that we cannot shun."
John Dryden
